 | INTRODUCTION

The Sacred Snake THAN-XA (Thần-Xà) is an advanced quyen (quyền: a
form, a set of choreographed movements). It belongs to the group of
Hung-Quyen (dynamic quyen) which is mainly intended for martial art fighters.
However, by its nature THAN- XA contains a
number of techniques and sequences that go far beyond the purpose of fighting
to reach the subtle field of Strategy and Art of Life to provide guidance to
the learners.   For the purpose of their teaching, teachers
from any discipline of the eight disciplines in the Viet-Chi System can
insert THAN-XA (in whole form as a quyen or in part as exercise) into their
  teaching programme and exam.

 THE MISSION OF THAN-XA
 |
|
 |
 THE
  MISSION OF THAN-XA The
Sacred Snake THAN-XA holds three different missions:
 -For regular students    To
provide technical training, under the purpose of body-and-mind exercise, with
the specific form called Than-Xa which reflects the ‘Way of Water’. To help
students, by the practice of doi-luyen (sparring),  be familiar with the techniques and the
spirit encrypted in the ‘ Way of Water’ through stance, hand-knife, kick,
block, jump, indirect move, changing way, stratagem, surprise-attacks and so
  on.
 -For advanced Black-Belts     To
train them for endurance and inner-energy development; for the art and the
practice of deceiving in combat. To help them be creative thanks to the
practice of strategy building and song-luyen /dual training. To give them a
specific form they can share with friends from different disciplines and
present their concept on the ‘Way of Water’. In
this book only some limited aspects pertaining to the realization of this
mission will be presented to the large public.
 -For Red-Belts     To
support Red-Belts (masters) in several aspects for the fulfillment of their
missions. This subject, being reserved to the training of Red-Belts, will not
  be treated in this book.

 | THE
  STRUCTURE OF THAN-XA

Than-Xa has six parts. After the
opening movement (A, facing South), Than-Xa operates mainly along the axe
East-West then in the end going back to the starting point in a series of
movements facing South (Zc and Zd). This makes us think to some military
operation: The General Than-Xa led the army. He went out of his castle and made a
declaration of war to others and claimed that his act was rightful. After
five winning battles in the East and in the West he proudly returned to his
castle with a Peace convention in hand. One can see through the five first
  parts how Than-Xa operated:
Opening the battle Preparing the moves Multiple attacks Surprise attacks Flying attacks. Once his victory was assured, he
opened the way for Peace under his initiative: Winning Peace
Through this quyen you can easily
notice the five dynamic moves of Than-Xa. But you will not see the invisible
five counterattacks delivered by his adversaries for their defence against
Than-Xa. Imagine how exciting would it be if you could see these invisible
scenarios. They will appear through the practice
of doi-luyen you will perform with a partner.
